Convert WAV to MP3 — right in your browser

Drop a .wav file — a recording, a mixdown, a sound effect — and get a much smaller .mp3 that plays anywhere. It's converted on your own device, so the audio is never uploaded.

Why convert WAV to MP3?

WAV is uncompressed audio — pristine, but huge: a few minutes can run to tens of megabytes, which is awkward to email, upload or store on a phone. MP3 compresses that down by roughly ten times with no audible difference for most listening, and it plays on every device, player and app there is.

Because WAV files are so large, the usual upload-to-a-server converters are slow and hand your recording to a stranger. VidKit doesn't upload anything — the conversion runs locally in your browser, so even a big .wav starts instantly, stays private, and isn't capped by a server's file-size limit.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser, on your own device. There's no server that could receive the file — open your browser's Network tab while it runs and you'll see zero bytes leave.
How much smaller will the MP3 be?
Usually around a tenth of the WAV's size. You pick the bitrate first — 320 kbps stays closest to the original, while 192 kbps is a good balance of size and quality for most audio.
Will I lose audio quality?
MP3 is lossy, so there is some loss in theory, but at 192 kbps and above it's transparent to most ears. For archival masters keep the WAV; for everyday listening and sharing, MP3 is ideal.
