Convert MP4 to GIF — right in your browser
Drop a short .mp4 and turn it into an animated .gif for chats, reactions and docs. It's made on your own device, so the clip is never uploaded.
Why convert MP4 to GIF?
GIFs loop automatically, play inline everywhere, and need no player — perfect for reactions, short demos and how-to snippets in chats, issues and docs. Keep clips to a few seconds: GIFs have no real audio and get large fast.
Most converters upload your clip to a server first. VidKit doesn't — the GIF is built locally in your browser, so nothing is stored or logged. Pick a width and frame rate to balance smoothness against file size.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The GIF is created entirely in your browser, on your own device. There's no server that could receive the file — watch your browser's Network tab while it runs and you'll see zero bytes leave.
Why is my GIF so big?
GIF is an old format that stores frames inefficiently, so even short clips can be several megabytes. Use a smaller width and a lower frame rate to bring the size down.
How long can the clip be?
Technically any length, but GIFs balloon quickly — a few seconds is ideal. For anything longer, an MP4 or WebM will look better and weigh far less.
