Facebook Messenger video size limit
Messenger accepts videos up to 100 MB per file — a limit raised from 25 MB in April 2024, so older guides quoting 25 are out of date. There is no time limit of its own; 100 MB holds a couple of minutes of full-quality phone footage or half an hour at a small picture size.
Messenger video limits at a glance
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| File size | 100 MB per file |
| What changed | Raised from 25 MB in April 2024. |
| Video length | No time limit — only the file size counts. A longer video simply has to be smaller per second, which the compressor below works out for you. |
The cap is on the file, not on the length or resolution, so the useful question is how much video fits in 100 MB — answered below from what this compressor actually produces.
Get your video under 100 MB
Drop the video below. It is compressed to just under 100 MB on your own device — nothing is uploaded — at the best quality that size allows, and checked so the result never lands over the limit. If the clip is too long to fit at a watchable quality, you'll be offered the opening stretch that does fit.
How much video fits in 100 MB?
Plenty — 100 MB is roomy compared with email or Discord. These rows are what this compressor actually produces from a typical phone recording — full HD, 30 frames a second, with sound.
| Video length | What you get |
|---|---|
| 1 minute | Full HD at the original quality — nothing is lost |
| 5 minutes | Nearly full HD, still sharp on any screen |
| 15 minutes | Reduced size — clear on a phone, a little soft on a TV |
| 30 minutes | Small picture; watchable, blocky on a big screen |
Even an hour of footage fits in 100 MB at a small picture size, so length is rarely the problem on Messenger. For a long video at full quality, a link — Google Drive, iCloud or Dropbox — is the better route.
Over the limit? Compress or link
For anything under half an hour, compressing to 100 MB keeps the video playing inline in the chat at a quality that suits a phone screen. For a long recording where quality matters, share a link instead — Messenger previews Google Drive, YouTube and most video hosts.
Everything on this page runs locally in your browser — your video never leaves your device, and there is no account or watermark. Not sure a clip will fit at a decent quality? The bitrate calculator tells you the picture size 100 MB supports for your video's exact length.
